Is there a Difference Between Recreational and Medical Cannabis

Colorado and Washington were two of the first to legalize marijuana for use recreationally, and with more and more states using this, you may wonder if there is a difference. Recreational marijuana is where you use marijuana so long as you’re an adult, and you get it from a licensed kind of dispensary. Medical usually is only for those who have a medical card, and it does require an appointment to establish the conditions too in order to get this.

State Programs

Usually, this is done in some cases because there are different benefits. Recreational usually is separate from medical too. Medical however doesn’t come with as high of a sales tax compared to recreational.  Medical does have a tax to it, but it’s much less, sometimes none at all. Medical-only dispensaries also exist too, and usually these are those that only medical patients can use, and they offer more offerings to those who want to use it. There are also differences in age restrictions too.

Recreational has to be over 21, but in some states, the under-21s usually use products for some conditions, with the help of the staff to assist you as a medical patient. So yes, there are some ways that these differ, and there are a lot of people who are really looking to ensure that they get the most out of their experience. If you’re looking to see whether or not you will be able to, with this, get the cannabis that you need, you can talk to your doctor, or also do some research on the strain.

Having it recreationally doesn’t mean a limited menu either. While some states are still getting a bit more forward with this, such as they’re actually trying to get more diverse types of cannabis, usually, the medical and recreational options are rowing as well. The rules of each of these do vary by state, since there are some considerations for each of them. For example, when New York announced they were legalizing it recreationally, there are those that thought that the process would begin immediately.

However, it does take time for it to be fully integrated. Illinois for example, put it in quite eerily, but there were lines that went for hours and hours, and sometimes they’d run out before they could handle all customers. With that said though, there are a lot of different ways for you to get medical and recreational cannabis, and if you’re someone that wants to do this, then you can talk to your doctor, or go into a recreational dispensary.

Recreational cannabis does have similar potency, but they also may have different strains, with some of them being available with e medical card. If possible, if you want to have access to a bunch of different kinds of means to ensure that you’re getting the right type of cannabis that you want to get. There are many different dispensaries to choose from, and there are a lot of different ways that you can do it. But do remember that this is a schedule I drug too, so it will not be federally approved.

A lot of the cannabis products are also regulated by the state, even the recreational one, so remember that if you’re going to be having this, and make sure that if you are using this, you consume the cannabis that’s there legally, and also responsibly as well, especially if you’re planning to use this recreationally in a state that’s legal, or even as a way to help offset a lot of the problems that you might have.

Why Parkinson’s Patients Use Marijuana

About 1 in 5 Parkinson’s patients have used cannabis to help with relief and is one of the main reasons for this. Those respondents that used this said that they got better pain relief, while others usually use this to help with reducing the absolute need for medications. A study that was done in 2013 showed that there were people questioned on different alternative methods, and while less than 5% said they used marijuana, it’s become much larger.

That’s because it’s become more used, and more and more younger people have used this, since they know that it can work. For those with Parkinson’s, it’s been reported that it helps with muscle cramps, aiding with pain relief. It also can help with stiffness, tremors, depression, restless legs, and anxiety. The tolerability was good for most of them, and a lot of them will use CBD-focused types of marijuana, and it can offer better means to reduce stiffness in the body, and akinesia too.

Clinical Evidence

There was research done on this in Tel Aviv, and it was found that 22 of them were evaluated before they smoked. It was then found that there was an improvement in the tremors, along with the rigidly that comes with it, along with the movement that slows down due to Parkinson’s disease. It also should be noted that the patients also had better sleep and pain tolerance. It also was found that they had better motor functions, a decrease in their pain, and they were able to have better quality of life due to this.

The information Gap

A study that was done on Parkinson’s also found that a lot of them had a different pattern of usage that worked with this. Due to the legalization though, and the different insights that came from this, one might assume that those who have Parkinson’s may choose medical marijuana after a bit because there has been ample information on the subject.

However, some people were only convinced after learning from the internet, then friend advice, the dispensary workers, and of course, other patients that have this, and it was found that through this information, they were able to get an idea of what their treatment would be like. It also was found that there were physicians asked about how they could get medical cannabis, but not many people know about this, and a lot of them do end up getting acclimated with a formal education in med school on this.

However, right now only about `0% of doctors will recommend this, but those who have patients that use it do report that quite a few people are happy with their treatment. Based on this, it’s quite obvious that there is one thing for sure, and that is that the use of medical cannabis to treat this is becoming more and more prevalent within the population and the medical community. If you have Parkinson’s, or you want to start on a medical cannabis treatment, the best thing to at this point is to consult a doctor on the types of different ways or you to get started with this.

If you do have Parkinson’s, and you would like to see if medical marijuana is good for you, then by all means, do so. There are a ton of different health and wellness benefits that come with consuming this, especially for patients of this condition. While there is still a bit of concern over use, it’s becoming more and more widespread over time, and with the way things are going with legalization too.

Cannabis Flower 101

Marijuana has many different names, with the most common being known as cannabis flower.  What is it though? It’s essentially dried flower of the bud of the cannabis plant. It has to be a female part of this. This one has a wide variety of cannabinoids, which crate the effects, both psychoactive and otherwise. There are terpenes, trichomes, and other aromas that are found in this, and usually, it’s dried, then cured, and then, they make it for sale at the local dispensary.

Types of flower.

There are many defend types of flower, but there are different kinds with similar properties. First, there is loose flower, which is just the flower bud in it of itself. It also is premium, which is the nugget shape of the cannabis, where it is dense and full, and usually is very rich in terpenes and trichomes, along with nutrients and flavors too. It’s usually the most expensive kinds of flowers. Popcorn is known for being small little kernels, and usually it doesn’t have the nutrients that the other types of cannabis plants have. Usually, they are cheaper, but they aren’t as flavorful as the regular flower, but they’re good for those on a budget. There is also the shake, and usually those are both premium with popcorn, and it can be different plants all put together, or used in concentrates, edibles, and pre-rolls. Every type of these can be either indica, sativa, or even hybrid, making it easy to find the ones that you want to get.

What to use for Flower

When you buy flower, you want to get it from a dispensary that’ll help you get the right flower and the right tools of the trade, while also answering questions. Once answered, they’ll give you the flower, and a way to smoke this. Most of them will give you a feel for the effects, but remember everyone will react defiantly, so take it slow. Once you choose what kind of flower you want, you can then choose the consumption method. This is good for those who want to really get the effects. One of the easiest is of course, vaping, which is something that lets you put the flower into there, and then they do all of the work.

You may need a grinder as well. This lets you break the flower into pieces that are tinier, which keeps your fingers from having a stickiness to them, and also helps with easier smoking too. While some may choose to use anything other than grinders, this is usually what beginners enjoy. There is also a glass pipe, papers, a water pipe, and filters.  Glass pipes are small, convenient ways for you to smoke, and they come in a variety of styles. Every single one of them has one side packed, and then, you inhale and hold onto the smoke from the other side of it. There is also water pipes, also called bongs, that use water to inhale smoke, and it can be good to prevent inhalation of ash.

Finally, you’ve got the joints, papers and filters, and these of course involve you rolling them. There are different kinds of joints too, pre-rolls, and then those with papers and flowers, and of course you’ve got to do it yourself. If you want to use this, you can talk to someone to help you figure out just what kinds of cannabis flower you want, and what will be fitting for you to use, and also that is simple for you to consume and have as well as a daily measure too.

Medical Cannabis and sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea isn’t snoring, since snoring is due to the movement of tissues within the throat as a person lets out and takes in air. While it’s annoying, it’s not a huge health risk. OSA however, is when you stop breathing, which causes the soft tissues within the throat to fall down and blocks the airway. When that stops, your oxygen levels will go down. Whenever your SCNS detects this, it’ll activate those fight or flight systems, releasing hormones such as adrenaline to help you wake up and you may start to gasp trying to get air. Because this reaction happens in seconds, you may not notice it, but you may have very interrupted sleep.

Usually, this is diagnosed with what’s called a sleep study, where they look at the oxygen, breathing, and different variables. Usually, the results are reported on a system of numbers, and from there, they figure out what to do with you. It’s beyond just feeling tired, it can actually contribute to heart disease, hypertension, gaining weight, damage to the brain, even metabolic syndrome. This, of course, is prevalent and may happen due to not being diagnosed in most cases.

Current Treatments?

Usually, at this point the treatments are a CPAP machine, which pumps air with a face mask over the face to offer a flow of air that is steady to stop the airways from collapsing as well. A lot of people don’t like this though due to how it sits, and usually, they discontinue use. Another form of therapy has come forward though, and that is where they put oral appliances on the jaw, in a forward motion to keep the airway open, and it works, but the problem is it can cause TMJ.

There are some studies however that are reporting that there is a chance that marijuana can be used to help, since it reduces anxiety, depression, insomnia and stress. There is also some studies which say that CBD may help those who can’t sleep with a CPAP machine and other kinds of therapies. There is also evidence which is limited but it’s been found that cannabinoids that are within marijuana may also discover that there is a way to reduce the frequency and instance of sleep apnea.

One of them was done in rats and bulldogs, where they administered different kinds of THC, monitored it for sleep apnea, and it was found that the frequency was a whole lot less during REM and non-REM cycles too. There was also a study that showed that synthetic THC also may have some promise of suppressing your immune system, and there was another study that was done where there were adults with moderate to severe sleep apnea and were given synthetic THC before they fell asleep. Since then, they found that there were reductions in their scores too over time, and it can be significant in some cases for those who have mild to moderate sleep apnea.

With that being said, there is still a lot of studies which need to be done to help you with getting the right medical marijuana to help you. While it may not be a valid study, there is something that may showcase that THC may aid with the increase of serotonin, and of course, this can play in serotonin regulation levels, which also plays a role in how they are affected by apnea moments too, and right now, there is still some work to be done on and it could possibly be what people are looking for when they’re looking to get the sleep aid that they need.

Weed Delivery – Open Up Pothead

Have you ever been chilling at home and wish that you could have your weed delivered to you? We live in a very modern time where we can get pretty much anything we want to be delivered right to our door. In fact, now that the pandemic has made its way across our nation over the last year or two, we can stay in our homes for way longer than we ever thought possible, thanks to good old-fashioned delivery. However, delivering weed is something completely different entirely. The hardest part about the cannabis industry is accessibility. It makes sense when you think about it. After all, medical marijuana (and recreational marijuana as well) is very limited from state to state and some programs are way stricter than others.

One can imagine that it is not always easy to come across dispensaries in your local area or community. Sometimes, medical marijuana patients will have to drive way out of there way to find a dispensary that can supply them for the month. People that are currently living in more rural areas are undoubtedly getting hit the hardest by this. Not to mention, when patients cannot access their medical marijuana by being able to drive or get a ride to the dispensary, they have to rely on a designated caregiver. Getting someone validated as your designated caregiver is actually a completely different, but equally strenuous process than getting your actual medical marijuana card.

Some people who do not have a caregiver or means to get to the dispensary are calling for a third-party delivery system with which they can get their weed from. However, dispensaries are up in arms about this whole thing because they don’t want other organizations or companies taking advantage of the lucrative cannabis system. It seems that the weed community is at an impasse and are willing to fight in court about such matters.

A few years ago, our very own state of Massachusetts approved the final regulations needed to get third-party delivery services up and running for the medical marijuana industry. Who would have thought that they would be the first? My money would have been on Washington or Colorado. In order to become a marijuana delivery service, a company must first apply for a business license and meet the regulatory requirements in order to actually go to work. So what does it look like on the ground level?

Well, I can imagine that this system will work similarly to how other delivery apps and services work. Of course, the person who orders the weed needs to be able to prove themselves as over 21 years old by providing some form of government issued ID, and medical marijuana patients would also need to show proof that they are registered for their cannabis by the state of Massachusetts.

Currently, patients in the state of Massachusetts can order up to 10 ounces of cannabis in their home, and dispensaries are only allowed to sell up to one ounce or five grams of marijuana concentrate in a single transaction. This means that you cannot walk into any dispensary and decide to buy the place out. You simply cannot buy that much weed at one time.

However, it is also important to note that there are certain level caps on concentrates and THC levels in marijuana products as well, meaning that you are limited in the amount of THC you can smoke in one sitting. To be honest, I do not think that these rules are too bad of a thing. After all, we want people to be safe with their cannabis and all of that good stuff.
